So, I’m sure you’ve heard, but in case you haven’t, there is this great new site: sk*rt.com. It’s a daily read for me. The way it works is wicked cool. People submit links. Links to blogs, news, websites. Other people can vote on the links, making them more popular and then they pop up on the home page. TONS of info on EVERYTHING. Perfect for me, I love to find out about new things, find new blogs and websites. My daily list of reads is updated constantly. Plus – the founders all have cool blogs too!
And just for fun, I’ve added a sk*rt button at the bottom of my posts, just in case there is anything you want to share…

This is so cool. Rob got this amazing little package from a former student of his – and it’s art – the whole process. She made them, now he has to distribute them. Read all about it on Rob’s blog - printtroll.

LuckyStitches – Friday Night Sew-cail, originally uploaded by zannestar.
Robin worked on a child’s quilt with fabulous prints from Purl. Tina FINALLY (jeez…I don’t know what she was waiting for) finished her tote bag that she started in the fall. Lex was busy sewing a baby carrier – with baby on her back once he woke up. Erin was busy knitting a bracelet (ooh…can’t wait to see this one finished). Helene was knitting a wool hat (yes in April…it’s for a benefit auction), and then sewed in a fleece lining. Stephanie was adding a loop (to keep her hair in place) to a hat she knit from Knitty. Marie wanted help with her draft of an A-Line skirt.
It was fun! So much fun…I can’t even remember what I worked on. Can’t wait to do it again! I’m planning on having LuckyStitches open almost every Friday for a Friday Night Sew-cial. 6pm-9pm in Northampton, MA. Check LuckyStitches.com for details.
We were fortunate enough to attend a viewing of Tomboys! Feisty Girls and Spirited Women and a discussion following with the director, Christian McEwen. The message is that essentially, we need to to encourage young people to be who they are and empower them to make their own decisions. It was interesting to learn that by the age of 13, many girls will say that “it doesn’t matter” when asked a question, like “what would you like on your pizza?” By the age of 15, they will say, “whatever you like is fine”. It’s important to encourage young people to know that their opinions and desires and emotions count and matter. The DVD is short, but wonderful. Christian is a local author/filmmaker and so passionate about this, as were the many that attended. It was all made possible by Sisters Ink, and awesome group of women that mentor girls 9-12, and every season offer workshops and such. (I’m doing the first workshop…stay tuned for pics and details. It’s next Saturday. In fact there are a few openings – so if you know a 9-12 year old girl – bring her to the workshop – it’s going to be a blast.)
I’ve been thinking tons about what I’m ornament I’m going to make for the Holiday Ornament Swap. So – I do my usual research – like a mad woman. I’ll be sure to post my most fave images, links and info here. And if you want to participate – you have to sign up by November 8!
I like the idea of these
“Love Letter” ornaments. Super special. These would look great on a tree or a beautiful branch in an appropriate vase.
I found this article on
fretwork. I’ll have to explore a bunch of techniques. My subject is always the same (I don’t think I need to tell you…it’s pretty obvious – don’t you think?), but I like to learn and try something new every year. I’m actually quite interested in latex and rubber, but need to do tons more research.
selfportrait.net is featuring Rob this week. I’ve started my self portrait – you will need to register – then you can explore. It’s a cool networking site for visual artists. You can post your art, and sell it too!
