Colour is for Lovers

Summer and Popsicle

I found ColourLovers (via MOO), and I just can’t stop it! There are so many great features, cool ways to find palettes, amazing colors to explore. This palette came from this photo of Iz:

Doesn’t this just want to make you lick a berry pop?

Waiting for the Snow

Waiting for the Snow

Well, not yet actually. (The above photo was taken at Yankee Candle, where we took Grandma Whitty one day during her visit. It snows there every 4 minutes, even in the summer. Santa even walked by on his way to lunch!)

It was a joy and a thrill to have Grammie and Grandma Whitty here for some time each. Now that we have Iz, we realize how wonderful it would be if we all lived closer and didn’t have to drive for a day, or fly for hours to spend quality time with our families. Grandparents played an important role in each of our lives, and we want that for Izzy too, and it will happen, it will just be different from what we remember. We’ll spend time writing emails, letters, making presents, sending things in the mail, taking pictures and maybe we’ll even make a memory box of our family. Tangible things Izzy can hold on to, so when she wants to think of her family, they are right there with her.

Bean Sprouting

We did put in 2 vegetable gardens via the Square Foot Gardening Method and even though I planted late, the beans are up, the lettuce, the zucchini and peas! My tomato plants are blooming, and last night we had our very first pesto of the year from the basil we planted. Iz is a big help as a weed puller. We are still working on not yanking plants, it will come!

These are the zucchinis. I really need to thin them out, but I’m not sure how to do it…(any ideas? do I just pull them out? snip the leaves?), and I kind of feel guilty. I feel so lucky that they are growing! My little blackish-green thumb is a little nervous…

Caterpillars and Butterflies

This is the best shot I could get today, before she tore it off! When I bought the fabric – I shared it with her, trying to get her excited about the bugs and what a great hat it would make!

I finished the hat last night, from a pattern I made. I love this hat, because of the wide brim to keep the sun off her neck and most of her shoulders. It’s a tad too big and I can tell that she doesn’t like it that way – so I’ll make a few adjustments. I lined it with a lilac tiny dot and secured it with a yellow gros grain ribbon. Not so thrilled with that, but I was desparate to finish last night so she could wear it to school today. And she did! Maybe she’ll hold still long enough for a better picture…

Girls Go for a Walk

We live close to the Chesterfield Gorge and it is an amazing place to walk with the kids.  We must have spent over three hours there today.  The weather was fabulous (will winter ever arrive?) and it was a perfect morning to spend outside.

Drillin’ Pumpkins

Last night we attended a super fun pumpkin carving party. In between saving the Iz from some dangerous stairs, we took turns “carving” our pumpkins. I decided to drill stars into my lil’ pump and there was goo all over me! Rob was kind enough to lend me his drill, and the kids were amazed. I need more light inside the pumpkin – so look for some pictures later!

Super thanks to Sienna for the picture

I love my garden

Every morning we need to visit our garden or gardy as the Iz calls it. We don’t have much, a few cherry tomato plants, a few pepper plants and a few summer squash plants. I love it. Iz loves it. Rob loves it. Going out there everyday and seeing the differences, sometimes subtle, sometimes tremendous – it really fills my soul. Then picking the ripe tomato or pepper or squash – WOW! Iz loves popping a tomato in her mouth and rolling it around for a while. These tomatos taste sooooooo good. I’ll miss it this winter. But I’m already thinking about next spring. I’ve harvested some seeds from this years harvest in hopes that 6-8 weeks before planting time, I can get the seeds started.
