Handmade Bag Swap – sent

I made another little zippered pouch for the Handmade Bag Swap. It’s on it’s way to someone in the UK. It’s small and filled with just a few things, pink irridescent sequins by-the-yard, pink felt flowers that have a fusible backing, perfect for ironing onto something and the cutest rhinestone flower stickers. The pouch is from this wonderful tutorial. The fabric is from thrifted drapes. I’m almost out of it…and everytime I’m out thrifting, I go straight to the drapes and bedding. I did get some great stuff on my last trip, pictures later.

Well, it’s official. I’ve launched LuckyStitches.

It’s a place where someone can come and learn to use their sewing machine, learn sewing skills, patternamking skills and fit skills. It’s a place for all levels. Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermdiate and Advanced. It’s a place where people can just come and hang out and sew, I have a few machines available for renting already, the’ll be a cutting table and irons. I am so fortunate right now to be renting a space from The Spirit of the Heart Kung Fu Studio in Northampton, Ma. It’s a great space, open and clean! and there is plenty of storage for the LuckyStitches paraphenalia.

In the next few days, I’ll be finishing up ordering/shopping for the space and getting ready for our first class, Re-Make a T-shirt into … Some will make a cool new shirt, or a skirt or a bag. The possibilities are endless!

To get added to the LuckyStitches Classes and News list – email me info@luckystitches.com and put subscribe in the subject line.

Sewing 1-2-3

I am so excited.  There are no words, only butterflies, a few sleepless nights and I just can’t sit still!  Jan 22, I will start a sewing workshop with kids!  It will be at The Children’s Art Museum, which will hold it’s grand opening on Jan 21.  I’ve planned a multitude of 2 hour sessions that will take place every Monday after school for kids 7 and up (under 7 with parent or caregiver).  Once the kids sign up and pay the materials fee, they’ll get their very own sewing box filled with the basics!  We’ll do some stitch projects, some pattern projects, some embellishment projects.

This is really exciting for me as I think of ways to “work”, but still have an open and flexible schedule and still be able to go to play dates and music class and all those important things.  I have plans to expand this whole concept.  I also lead a Sewing Series at the local Family Center once a month.

Anyway – once the Sewing 1-2-3 calendar is firm, I’ll post it, so if you have kids in the locale – they can sit and sew for a bit every Monday.  I’m also looking for donations for this workshop:

  • fabric
  • trim
  • notions
  • thread
  • embroidery floss
  • sequins
  • beads
  • sewing supplies
  • yarn
  • ribbon
  • knitting/crochet supplies

If you can send/drop off some goodies – I’d be forever thankful!

Stay tuned…more info to follow!

I got CRAFT!

CRAFT on newsstands now!, originally uploaded by natzee.

I have been running to my mailbox every day now for two very important reasons:
1. I have been eagerly awaiting ornaments from the Holiday Ornament Swap (things don’t get mailed until tomorrow anyway…but a girl can dream!)
2. The first issue of Craft.

I am a lucky girl, Craft arrived yesterday. It’s a little late because I subscribed to it a day or two before it hit the newstands, and well, you know how rags are – they don’t arrive for another 4-6-8 weeks after you pay for them. I have to say, I love it. I love the size of it. It’s smaller than your “typical” magazine – which helps make it special. Oh, but the pages inside are really, really wonderful. I haven’t even had it for 24 hours, and I can’t let go of it.  For me, this is a sure page turner.  The projects are clever, the writing is quick and the people are fabulous.

I love the robots on the cover, I love the knit boots, the LED clothing (I want to make a tee for the Iz – she’d LOVE IT, and probably never take it off),  the whole bazaar section hilighting cool stuff like my all time FAVE fabric store, Reprodepot.com.

Needless to say, I’ll read and read and read this issue until it is memorized, try out some of the patterns/projects and wait patiently for my next issue which will arrive in a few months.  Thanks Craft!

creative space

We moved into our house only 11 months ago.  We have so many ideas and things we want to do – especially to our respective studios.  Rob’s studio is the barn – and well – has no heat.  My studio is the office and that too – has hardly any heat.  I look around and see all these wonderul pictures of studios and I am so inspired.  I love these pics too:
Then I cam across this place from Russell Davies and I get to explore even more.  This is starting to make me feel that my bookmarks are really tear pages – I just wish I could tear them out of the www and tape them up to my wall…
Anyway, this all just keeps me from actually working on my space (I actually wouldn’t be able to do it this very minute ,  we have a friend over, and Iz and Haz are making sculptures out of flour dough right next to me).  I’ll take pictures of my space so you can see the before…later.
