More Sharpie Love…

We love our Sharpies at our house. Passionately. Sometimes, they are the only tool of choice for Iz. We decorate pumpkins with them, made Christmas cards, and made lots of other art.  I was thrilled to read about the basement decorated in Sharpie.  Via DesignMom and Cookie.

Wanting a Wreath…

I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around the holidays now, instead of during, so I can make a few things.  One project on my list is a wreath.

I remember making wreaths with mom and my grandmother.  I remember the evergreen wrapped to a metal wreath with a red ribbon.  I remember collecting pine cones and acorns and gluing them to a plywood wreath form.  I think Iz would love to make a wreath this year too!

Here’s a little inspiration gathering I’ve been doing.

A (LuckyStitches) Wedding Dress

Many, many months ago, I got a call from a young man looking for help to learn how to shorten shirt sleeves.  See, he’s a rock star and well his clothes need to be tight, but the sleeves were always too long.  Then his fiancé called and we met in a groovy cafe on a snowy day.  The rest is history, and after a few months, Libby had a wonderful and unique wedding dress.  While she’s been a sewer (the stiching kind, not the stinky kind), she learned a bit more about her sewing machine, how to sew with knits and how to make a pattern, among other fun sewing tid bits.  We draped the pieces, drafted the patterns and stitched up this lovely dress (tunic and skirts).  Congratulations Libby and Aaron, you look wonderful!  Thanks for letting me be a small part in your amazing celebration.  xxooZ

The top tunic part is a lovely jersey with a surplice neckline and petal like hem.

The skirt part is actually multiple parts, both made of interesting gauze pieces that Libby draped and buttoned around her.

Note the lovely green Dr. Martins.  I think she has the largest collection of DMs ever!  Amazing! – and Libby – love the necklace choice….

Libby sent her party green fabric and they each made their own (or had help) dresses.  I think they all did an outstanding job. I love the green and red together.

Here’s a shot of Libby working on a dressform.  And here’s a shot of us playing with the paper pattern.

Are You Going To Vote?

I am.

My Voter Card Arrived!

My voter registration card came in the mail the other day.  Because I’ve recently moved to Seattle, I don’t have the WA id to be able to register on line, and while I was thinking about where to register to vote, there was a lovely volunteer outside of the grocery store.  I registered right then and there! and got to explain the whole thing to Iz.  She’s almost 4, and I’m sure doesn’t understand the whole thing (it is pretty big after all), I do think it’s the right time to talk about it and start giving her information.  She’ll come with us when we vote and get to press the buttons and pull the levers.

I remember going with my parents when they voted.  I remember watching the news and waking up and hurrying to read the paper to find out wo I hope you are going to vote in November (if you haven’t already).  Just please be informed. I know who I’m voting for.  The other candidate helped me decide when he picked his running mate.

3400 Miles in 58 Hours

Rob arrived in Seattle on Wednesday, about 2 months after we left Western MA.  We sure did miss him.  He arrived in time to pick Iz up from school.  She saw me first, big smile as usual.  Then she saw her dad, the jaw dropped and she ran into his arms!

I Found A New History Teacher

Tonight Michelle, Lois and I went to Town Hall to hear Sarah Vowell read from her new book, The Wordy Shipmates.  I love listening to writers talk, because they spend so much time thinking, their comments and answers to questions are always so complete, at least to my ears.

I’ve only read Take The Cannoli, and soaked up every word, all of her other books are on my wish list to read.  I’ve heard her a few times on NPR.  She is so interested and passionate about history, I wish she would have been my history teacher in school.  I think I would have paid more attention, been interested in more events and people, and enjoyed history even more (I already enjoy history, but not as much I think if I had a teacher who loved it at much as Sarah Vowell does).

A Day At The Zoo…

started with lunch at Johnny Rockets where it was a bit busy so we had to wait a little…. and play with the camera of course…
Iz+Me

After yummy onion rings we drove on over to the zoo.  Iz was so excited, every minute, “Is this the zoo mommy?”

Iz and the Hippo

We took a snack break on the hippo.

Tractor Girl

My little farm girl took a spin on the tractor.

Climbing Earthworms

And climbed earth worms.

It was such a good day, perfect fall weather, sunny and a bit on the cool side, but still warm.  We ran around the zoo for hours.

Did you notice the poncho?  Lovely find in a consignment shop.  Inspiration for the yellow farm girl poncho.  She’s already asked me for more.  How many ponchos does a girl need?
