are looking for kids jokes. I got her email the other day, and was totally, totally blank. I am so not the joke rememberer or teller. I kill jokes. seriously.
But last night, at about 1:30AM, I remembered one my dear Aunt Kitty taught me, and it makes me giggle EVERYTIME:
I think pillows are a great beginner project, heck – they are a great project for any level stitcher. Excellent practice. Not a big fabric investment, not even a big time investment, and they allow for you to experiment with fabrics, colors, thread, closures and size. They always look fabulous and are the perfect accent in any room. Beautiful shots of color. I love pillows.
Everybody came to class with an idea or drawing and we talked about how to turn it into an appliqué. We made a pattern, traced it onto the fabric, then cut them out of fabric and pinned the motifs down to the pillow fabric – and stitched away. Once the front was done – we put a zipper in the back, stitched up the sides and VIOLA! pillow happiness.
I think you might remember my love of handmade pincushions? This is another great sewing project. Great practice for learning basic hand sewing stitches. These were inspired by this . Each picked a jar or bottle lid, made a pattern and picked their colors. I LOVE the pocket for the scissors/seam ripper. Makes it a cool little sewing station.
Small projects like these are perfect practice for any sewer. They make the best accessories for your home or sewing kit (or )
Wednesday, February 27 6Pm-9Pm – we’re making Egg Cup Pin Cushions at . I hope you can make it.
We took turns cutting – big squares and big letters. After gluing the big letters down, Iz got the cards so she could match up the little letters and glue them down.
While waiting for us…she ROARED with her dino “cuttings”.
We had so much fun taping these to the wall. You can see the big yellow tape that Iz used on some of the blocks. I LOVE gaffers tape.
I’ve really been wanting Alphabet Cards for her room, but just don’t want to shell out the cash-o-la. This was definitely more fun. (although the Art Director in me was trying hard to control letters, colors and placement, and thankfully, realized early on, that letting it just happen was the BEST.)
Sort of sounds like a horror movie (and perhaps it is for some) but it’s a new – and I’m already addicted! Started by and – clearly moms to extraordinary dressers…, it showcases our wee one’s ability to put outfits together.
And what an ability it is. Even though Iz has just turned 3, she’s played the biggest role in what she wears for the last year. I love it. (ok, sometimes I have an idea for a cute oufit and she flat out says no. Isn’t it too soon for that? Doesn’t that happen when she’s like 12? Am I out of the picture already?)
I have so been looking for this group! I love ….but totally wanted something for the wee one set.
Lisa emailed me this photo after she introduced herself and asked if I could help with her project. Lisa has started – you can read the story on her site. She said she would do a cartwheel if I said yes. So I said YES! – now show me that cartwheel…I LOVE THAT!! (when was the last time you did a cartwheel?)
Lisa has a great idea and what I love is that it’s very SMART and GREEN! (those 2 seem to go hand-in-hand – don’t you think?). She’s making pants for the 3-4 and under set that will cover diapers. Of course – how many of us have scooped up the back waist of our kid’s pants to hide dipey?
It gets cooler… fabric is either found or donated and RE-USED!
Ok – ready for even more coolness… a portion of the sales goes directly to the cancer foundations that have helped Lisa during her cancer survival. YOU GO GIRL!
Our initial meeting was a consultation. I do those because it makes it easier to say no to a project for both parties. It’s hard to say no once you’ve collected or spent money. How could I say no to this? I LOVE IT! I’ll give Lisa some pattern making and sewing tips so the SmartyPants Project does it’s own cartwheels.
I love it – another cool mom doing cool things. ROCK ON!
PS – SmartyPants Project needs your fabric donation. !
Friday was Iz’s Birthday. Her 3rd Birthday. It goes so fast!
She woke early – and I was so excited to give her the present. I started making it over a year ago, and decided I would finish for this birthday.
I think she loves her!
I’m 3!
Later that day we made a cake. We went to the store the day before and picked it out. Is picked out a white cake with white frosting. I suggested chocolate, but she said no, the picture was ALL WHITE! AND MAMA – WHERE ARE THE SPRINKLES???
We finished icing the cake…
and out came the SPRINKLES!!!
For dinner we made California Rolls. We all participated – and made them together. It was SO MUCH FUN! We all loved them.
Saturday – We went to the library. We go every weekend after ballet. Iz usually plays, but this time, she sat down and read through every book on that bottom shelf! Whew! We were there for a long time. She loves books, we read all the time. But at the library, there’s just too much to do and usually friends are there too, but this time we spent time with the books.
Sunday – we made cupcakes for a little party. More SPRINKLES!
Fun with friends and some presents.
And singing and candle blowing! We had a lot fun. Great friends helping us celebrate.
Then, today, I found this. Makes me a little nauseous…who’s hair is this? Iz says it’s Summer’s. I called, Summer still has her hair. Last year, it was cupcakes in her bed. This year – they played Salon. What’s going to happen next year?
I am astonished that it’s been 3 years since Iz was born. As I was thinking about her birthday this year, her actual birth came back to me more vividly than ever before. Wow – 3 years of being a mom. A parent. Every day is pretty amazing. I cherish every moment. I wonder what this year will bring. Every day, Iz surprizes me wih something else. Her stories, her words, her reasoning. I love this being a mom thing.
