I was looking for pictures of me, and there just aren’t that many, I usually carry the camera. I started taking some this weekend when we were on our trip to Upstate New York.
I love these:
We have tons of zucchini at the moment. I’ve shredded and placed in the freezer 26 cups and chopped 4 gallons that are in the freezer too. I’ll use the shredded in bread and cake and yummy risotto. The chunks will be for winter stews and roasting. yum. Oh did I mention that all of this came from only 5 zucchinis? I love gardening.
Here are the baby zucchini plants.
This was taken before picking the zucchinis.
I tried to can tomatoes over the weekend, and while I don’t think I failed horribly, it wasn’t what I was hoping for or expected. 5 quart jars are now in the freezer. I borrowed a large pot, but it wasn’t big enough to cover the filled jars with water and boil. ARGHHHHH. I have to do the rest of my tomatoes and I’m thinking I’ll follow the advice left over at Bitter Betty’s post about canning. It’s a great tutorial. Does anyone have a great online source for canning? and supplies? I’d love canning tongs and can’t seem to find them locally. I found this kit.
Twirly Skirt!!! I made this is about 30 mins right before leaving for a birthday party. I used the bias tape from my first quilt, I have a few yards left over, and I’m trying to work through my stash and clean it out. I wanted a pic before the party, and was a little nervous about having Iz model for me, knowing she would be watching her friend open it in just an hour. But she played along beautifully!
The recipient of our little gift was quite pleased:

You can see more pics of our little fashion shoot here.
As I go through my stash there will be more of these. I think I am addicted.
ok. Picture this. A roof that is still being sheathed and shingled. Six weeks of no rain. Weather forecast calls for a rainy weekend. Faster roofing is being done. Finally thunder and lightening and sprinkles as we clean up the tools, materials and tarp the open areas. Then, it’s just sprinkles. For a while. It’s still wicked hot.
Now it’s 1:30AM and the rain is coming down harder and faster than we’ve seen in a long time. It’s flash flood weather. Rob (who is sleeping in the buff, it’s still really hot and humid), jumps out of the bed and runs outside (naked). It’s pouring so hard it almost hurts and the rain is cold. The tarp is gathering water at the peak of the roof and sinking in. It has to be emptied. Rob is now on the roof (naked), emptying and securing the tarps. Rob moves inside (still naked). There are buckets of water pouring into our basement from the open areas of doing the roof (it’s a crazy house, the basement is at the back of the house where it’s built into the hill, so it’s not under the house – or part of it anyway). He’s moving my sewing machines up high, boxes and other things that can’t get wet that we’ve got stored in there. He moves tarps and plywood around (naked in the pouring rain), and as he finishes the rain stops. He positions the fans so they can start drying up the pools of water and make sure nothing is sitting in a puddle.
He can’t go back to sleep. I’m in bed with Iz, we didn’t hear a thing.
We are hoping it clears up a bit so Rob can finish up and get the roof sealed. It is supposed to rain this afternoon, so it just might be a break day. whew.
Oh – and Rob is dressed now. Sitting on the couch with Iz reading a book, anxious to get the roof finished. More pictures later (but none of Rob naked, sorry).

Iz discovered something that belonged to Mommy and Daddy, and wasn’t going to give it up. When I explained that it belonged to Mommy and Daddy and wasn’t for Iz, she replied” It is yours, but I’m going to hold it for you.” (can you picture us rolling on the floor with laughter?) Finally, we convinced her to place said article down. She’s only 2. Every day we are amazed at her vocabulary, sentences and actions. We look at each other during a conversation at the dinner table and I know we are thinking the same thing. “This is surreal. How did we become parents? How did we become parents of this 2 year old who can tell us what she likes, doesn’t like, what she wants to eat, wear, read?”
Before May of 2004, you couldn’t have told us that we would be parents. It just wasn’t in the mix. We lived in a darling tiny one bedroom garden apartment in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. We were doing really fun things at our wonderful jobs. We daydreamed about traveling to Italy, maybe even moving there. No one could tell us what we was coming. No one could prepare us for PARENTING. Now, things have changed so much! We live in New England, with a big home and a yard in the country. I stay home with Iz, work on a few freelance projects and working on starting a business around sewing (which I LOVE), that will me allow the flexibility to bring Iz with me, play with Iz on playdates, take her places. Rob is working and planning for a teaching job to come his way (which it will). We are updating/renovating our 250+ year old house, make it more liveable for us, and perhaps more marketable if we decide to sell it and move. Thinking about the future, we are strongly considering joining/starting a homeschool co-op. We are both pro public school, at least we used to be, and we know that there are some really amazing public schools out there, just not near us right now.
Life is funny. Things that happen every day can change what will happen forever. Being parents has helped us embrace this and learn to enjoy every minute of it.
I’ve seen these in person, when we visited Lulu in Seattle and she told me about her Esty Shop. I’ve always loved and admired her work, and even more so after seeing the bracelet and ring version of the earrings that a friend was wearing.
I love these cute Owl Rings from Insidesign.
I’d Rather Be Riding a Unicorn bumper stickers.
I’m loving Lottie Frank’s fashion illustrations. I’ve been flipping through my stash of illustrations I’ve done since college, and I stumbled on an old notebook filled with fashion illustration doodles. Inspiring!
And lastly – I think this santa key is such a darling idea!
I should really be helping with the roof….but I’ve been clicking away:
This line of hats from Zooni is SO CUTE! via MightyGoods
I’ve been catching up on cake + pie and freshly{blended}, wondering if they will be doing their ornament swap this year (I really hope so…I have my idea – just want to get an early start this year – you know madness around the holidays can make them not fun.)
Sixty Six Stitches made Amy Butlers Gum Drop Pillows, and looking at her post, I think I’ll need to make a few! I am also inspired by her quilt made from old wool blankets.
When I was in Seattle, I was able to visit IKEA. It’s been a few years, and it was hard not to throw everything in my cart. I picked up some really cool placemats and some shopping bags (these would fit into my suitcase). But I’ll be going back in a few weeks to pick up some chairs for LuckyStitches, so I’ve been perusing ikea hacker for creative ideas. This bookshelf would be perfect in the new space. hmmm.
I’ve been looking at stacking chairs. Limerick. Easy Stacking Chair. Izzy. HAG. vintage OMK.
On the Plane, originally uploaded by zannestar.
We had a great time. The flight was good (but rather long, I suggest direct flights…), the family and friends were great, and as usual we enjoyed Seattle.
There was bonding over breakfast:

Visited School:

This was a GIANT slip’n’slide. Tons of fun on the last day of school. Even I needed a nap after this day.
Dabbled in Tide Pools and experienced water life at the Seattle Aquarium:

The Jellies were amazing.

My Lil’ Octo:

Hung out at the Playground:

Visited the animals at the Woodland Park Zoo:

It was fun visiting all our friends. We wish we could have stayed longer and spent more time! Our visits were short. The best part I think was being able to pick up with friends where we left off. You wouldn’t know that we haven’t seen each other in years, it was as if a few days had passed, nothing more. Can’t wait to see you all again! xxoo!
After an ultra-long flight, we came home to a house under contruction. It’s quite overwhelming, the changes, the dirt, the piles. It’s quite exciting too. Lots of decisions to make and TONS of work to do. Pictures here.
