We were eating lunch together (like we do almost every day) and Iz was rubbing my arm. She looks up at me and smiles. “Mom, you are my best friend”. You are mine too sweetheart. Please don’t ever forget it.

Iz loves her skirt. I made TWO, yes TWO last night in less than TWO hours. These are so much fun to make. And Iz just loves it. She picked out the fabric. I mentioned to her yesterday that I was going to make her the skirt and showed her the fabric (that she picked out at the store) and she declared that the fabric was too big for a skirt and she didn’t like it. She’s TWO! Anyway, I can’t get the thing off her now. What I love about this skirt? Well, it has a drawstring waist, so it will grow with her, and it is just long enough that we don’t get a peak of what’s underneath when she’s sitting (most of the time). I will be making many more of these! And if you are local – I’m teaching others how to make this on Monday, June 18, 1-4Pm, at The Children’s Art Museum. And click over if you want to see more pics from our “Twirly Skirt Fashion Shoot”
Have you checked out BurdaStyle.com yet? I love it. Open Source Sewing. You can download their patterns at no charge, and make your own clothes. Or download their patterns, use them as a starting point and make something new from them. I love a bunch of their stuff. I especially love the Anda Dress and check out what nikkishell has made with her Anda Dress Pattern. I’ve downloaded this dress pattern and plan on using something in my stash for it.
Yes, no fabric shopping for me. I have so much fabric, I’m looking for projects to do so I can thin the stash out a bit. I really need to buy fabric for projects instead of just buying fabrics.
Just a reminder – the Pants Class at LuckyStitches starts this weekend. We will be taking a commercial pattern and adjusting it to fit YOU! There is still room – email me from the LuckyStitches website to sign up! (There’s a free pant pattern on BurdaStyle.com if you can’t make it to the pattern store in time!)
Happy Sewing
I’ve just been tagged by Tony(a) at The Herbal Way.
The rules are simple…Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
one. When I met my husband almost 18 years ago, I became a vegetarian. I was a vegetarian for many years, and loved it. Then, about 5 years ago, allergies made me so sick I couldn’t get better, or shake the flu. After much accupuncture, homeopathy, and meat in my diet, I FEEL GREAT! Being a vegetarian wasn’t for me. (Yes, I did all the food combining, consulted with nutritionists to make sure I was getting what I needed, but I wasn’t – it’s ok. I know that people can be very healthy as a vegetarian, look at my husband! – he still is!)
two. I love Madonna. I always have. I love the way she has evolved and explored and endured.
three. I hated high school. I loved college. I would go back to college in a heartbeat. You couldn’t pay me enough to return to high school.
four. I really love sewing. I was a fashion design major at Pratt Institute and realized before I graduated, that I loved doing this fashion thing for me, and not anyone else. Thank goodness for my boss at The Style Council. The best first out-of-college-job a girl could have, with the best people ever.
five. I love being a mom. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
six. I used to be able to remember things. Now, I can’t remember that much. I have to write everything down, twice.
seven. I collect buttons. I love buttons. I have a postcard collection too. When I was 12, my aunt gave me her postcard collection. I’ve spent the last 25 years adding to it. Want to send me a postcard? I have them from all over the world and from almost 100 years ago. I’m excited to pass it to my daughter in about 10 years.
eight. I LOVE STARS!!!
I’ve been going through some old video and finally uploading it. This is from October 2006. More later.
The one in the middle is my brother’s oldest. English is his second language – and can you hear how excellent he is! I love the internet. Without it, I’d have to wait for a video tape that might never come. Thanks Benny!
This is such a cool idea for weddings – or other fun get togethers. I love photobooths. If I ever have the perfect spot, I’m going to get me one.
Friday was a lot of fun! Of coourse I forgot my camera, so here’s a shot of what I worked on last night.
I’m no longer a fan of onesies. Up until potty time, they were great, now – way too many snaps. There is no time for snaps, especially when they’ve got to go!
So – I cut off the bottom, folded it up and pressed it, then used a fancy zig zag stitch to finishe the hem. Totally cute. I love the idea of making something old new again. And it was much better than putting them away in storage, now she’ll get a lot more use out of them.
Today, was my birthday – so Iz and I went to the fabric store. It was pretty fun. I wasn’t looking for me, I like to do that alone, so I don’t have to rush! Iz wanted a dress, so we got blue fabric and a bunch of other cute little prints for dresses, skirts and bloomers. She absolutely LOVES dresses, and we visited the button section and she picked out butterfly buttons, flower buttons….and…..DINOSAUR buttons. She loves dinosaurs. She can identify the T Rex, the Stegasaurus, the Brachiasaurus and a few others I’m not going to try to spell. It would be great to find a “pretty” (not sweet silly) dinosaur print, suitable for a dress. She would go nuts over it! ROAR!
